Mother – Art installation
Mother is a new collaborative film and dance work created by acclaimed filmmaker Jasmin Tarasin and Helpmann award-winning choreographer Stephanie Lake. This work explores the concept of mother; what it means to be mothered, to be a mother, and to not be a mother. Every voice has a story to tell. Mother explores both male and female ideas and stories around this. Together, Jasmin and Stephanie will explore this territory philosophically and aesthetically. Using film, dance, live music, motion graphics and a giant mist wall, this inter-disciplinary work will delve into the parallels of our inner and outer worlds, the visions that we create and the stories that we tell. Dance and film are the perfect art forms to bring this duality to life. Choreography can convey so much in just a single gesture. It can express an emotional logic that is beyond words. Film and the moving image offer structure, logic and realism, with the ability to hone in, draw the eye to detail and paint a picture. The marrying of these forms is a perfect metaphor for the idea of inner and outer realities.
